Günter Winkler was born on 15 January 1976 in Vorau in the Austrian province Styria. The strong traditional influences that surrounded him during his childhood had a lasting formative influence on him and his music. The foundations for his future instrumental career were laid by singing lessons and appearances in his home-town. In 1987, Günter decided to pick up the clarinet and in 1994 finished his classical training at the music academy in the city of Pinkafeld with director Mr. Ehrenhöfer and professor Salmhofer, the head of the clarinet class at the Conservatory in Klagenfurt. Having honed his musical qualities in various styles over the past few years, Günter is now a highly sought after substitute with various ensembles and orchestras. He also continues to play folcloric Styrian "Stubenmusik"; where traditional Austrian music is cultivated and continues to be highly regarded.
In 2002, Günter moved to Vienna to continue his training and in 2003 joined the Police Orchestra in Vienna.
